“Why does a wedding photography cost so much?” This is a question that we know is asked all the time by those planning a wedding, and we know that Mom and Dad wonder why the cost today is much different than what they paid when they were married. In my opinion there are several factors. ...

:goodjob:Wow, that was great information! Now…Do you have a package for all day around $900.00? Oh, and I want a 50 page album, all my photos, even the bad ones and my master dvd so I can get all my reprints printed at one of those discount wearhouses?
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
:goodjob: Well done! Excellent rundown on service and costs.
I quit doing custom stained glass because people would spend more on curtains for a window, then a one of kind art piece.
Much of my skill, time and costs were never appreciated
@broncomom - How true…hard honest work is hardly appreciated anymore. Especially in the area of art. So much is mass produced and done cheaply these days no one really wants to invest in it. On the other hand its hard to really blame people when they have no idea how much time, skill and equipment costs to produce quality. We have all grown accustomed to Walmart and Costco and I am victim too!
Pottery and stain glass work has always amazed me and I do understand the cost involved with that as well as sculpture and paintings, drawings, etc…
If I listed the money we have in our equipment, classes, workshops, DVD’s, travel and wear and tear on all of it, as well as supplies I think I would faint!
Keri
Great job…if I get married…the money is totally going into the photos more then anything else…they are what lasts (sometimes longer then the marriage…LOL) Love Ya, Charlotte
wow…that’s a lot of stuff…even I didn’t think of all that! the one thing I don’t think I could ever do is design an album…hmmm, yea…i’m lacking in the creativity dept.
You are so dead on with all these points. I just feel bad for the many brides that get suckered into using cheap photographers who end up giving them “cheap photography”.
I’ve enjoyed perusing your site. Great entry. I just hope I come into an inheritance before I get married.
To me, the photography is the most important thing of the day (besides actually getting married. =D).
You do great work!!
Yep, and most still don’t get it! The list of administrative positions is great. Looking at it that way, it’s no wonder we get so worn out.
-Jeff
Just re-read this blog entry. Thank you for posting it! (And thank you Mary for emailing it!) I need to keep this information fresh in my mind at all times, for sure. To be honest, if I had gotten married 20-30 years ago, I wouldn’t have even hired a photographer, the pictures were SO boring and the quality was so limited. If I hired anybody way back then, it would have been an artistic photojournalist like Gary Winogrand…
Now with digital, we actually have true artists taking the wheel instead of “people who know how to operate a camera”… I tell all my brides and grooms when I consult with them, you do NOT want to risk hiring someone who just got into the business, or someone who shoots for dirt-cheap in general. The poor service and image quality is just not worth it no matter what the bargain!
=Matt=

Oh- how adorable. What a great ending to a story that could have been so much worse!
Handsome cats, I like the tuffs on their ears, they look a lynx
Those two are WAY TOO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m in LOVE with them!
Awww…. :sunny:
Our cat is just a reg. short hair. I just realized that I never responded to that question! LOL
:heartbeat: :heartbeat: Such beautiful cats!! :heartbeat: :heartbeat: What breed are they? This story should be put in a cat magazine … click here. It is an amazing and heartwarming TRUE story. GO FOR IT!!!!!!! :heartbeat: ~Carolyn
@RaZeHeLL - Carolyn, they are Maine Coons. I had one years ago it was a gray and white tabby tho. Arent they beautiful?? They really are the neatest breeds. They can be quite independant, not much for being laptops. But they do connect! They will follow you around like a dog even outside. Great gardening pals! Playful and get along with other cats and dogs. They only need brushing once a week, too.Now if that isnt a nice neat bundle of cat personality!
Kerri
@lydellphoto - :heartbeat: Thanks, Kerri, for replying. Now….WRITE YOUR STORY AND SUBMIT IT SOMEWHERE…

Hey Christie!
I was so glad to get these from the owners. They took great pics!
How are ya? Any chance you are coming to WPPI?
Kerri
Hi Kerri,
I’m really good, hope you’re all well too. No, unfortunately I’m unable to come to WPPI Awards this year. Are you going? I’ll have to let you all tell me how it went. I’m right behind again with my blogging, trying to catch up (again).
Christine

One of our favorite wedding sites, David Girard Vineyards, is having a wedding workshop in April. Even if your wedding isn’t at their location, there will be tons of information you can take away to help you make your day perfect! And the exciting part is that they invited Mark to come and...

And so long Znarf…I’m glad Kerri didn’t mistake you for kitty litter.
Znarf in the window of the truck CRACKS ME UP! (It’s late here, don’t make fun)
I agree with mommyfish. Nice job on the editing and the picture-taking of the last one.
Two great portrait sessions — I wonder if you won’t see Znarf again sometime when he comes through town?!
Such a sweet cat! Can you make me look as good as Lisa?

What a kind thing to do. I know a lot of people who would have fed the cat, but work to find it’s owner and help reunite them- pretty cool.
Love the last photo of Lisa.
@dimsom - Victor – absolutely!! You need to get up here to see us!! I think you should arrange a southern california xanga vacation trip to northern callifornia!!
Seriously, anytime you want to come up here you are more than welcome.
 Lets all get together at the Lydells house. Kerri is an excellent cook and Mark likes to lay around and laugh so all 200 of us…its off to Roseville, california. Now keep it a secret, lets just surprize them this next weekend!

A Sweet Ending… On our way home from visiting our LA Phrangas we stopped along the way at a truck stop right at the Merced Fresno county border. I spotted a cat over by the garbage bin. Feeling sorry for it I found some food we had in the car and walked it over. Thinking it was feral I...

He is a beautyful cat Keri
It’s a good thing that you guys came by when you did and took him home with you. So happy that you found the owener and sorry to here that he has’t to go back home. Now I bet the trucker will lock his cab up frm down on.
Our cat is missing don t know if that wind storm blew him away some where or not. My landlord was out driveing around trying to find him and could’nt find him no where. Julian thinks that somebody might have took him in and started feeding him. Where ever he is I hope he s safe and happy.

:heartbeat: Ohhhhhhhhhh, I sure do love this story. What a blessed cat … you can see how God worked everything out…for the good. He sure is pretty. What a happy ending INDEED. awwwww what a nice thing you did. i’m sure znarf is gonna miss you too.
@kennyahn - It’s all Kerri. She tried to be kind to me, but my reaction to putting a cat in our car we found at a rest stop wasn’t nice. But it was all for the better. I’d like to name him Nonac. If not that Nokin.
We’ll see who gets it first.
What a sweet story — sad that you’ll lose such a friendly pet, but how happy that he goes back to his lost owner! Those are lovely photos of a very fortunate kitty! I’m off to find out where Corning, CA might be!
Aw, that was very kind of you, glad this story has a happy ending
That’s so great that you went out of your way to pick up this stray cat and look for his owner. You’re the true pet lover!

What a great story!!
And I’d go with Nonac the Latigid Tac…LOL. Or would that be LOL?
P.S. You know what the most amazing part of this whole story is? That you can actually give a cat a bath…ya, that’s amazing.
:sunny: That is a amazing story. When I met him at your house he was so laid back and comfortable, going to miss the fury tailed guy. Oh well, we all still have Mark!
RandO
@mommyfish - And the other amazing part is when you bring your cat in to have them read the microchip you are getting a Cat Scan….
ba dum bum…
wow, that’s touching, but i can see how it’s hard to part with such a great cat!!! our new kitty, joey, is microchipped so that helps. i need to get coco microchipped cuz you never know. lucky for the owner! what a great story! saw the recent pics of the owner and his 18 wheeler – heheh – so funny. and the cat definitely loves to travel, judging from the great pics y’all took. ![]()
